The Israeli National Trail (2020)
This project documents a two-month journey along the Israeli National Trail, a long-distance route that crosses the country from north to south. During the autumn and winter of 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, photographer Barr Kroter walked the trail in its entirety, covering approximately 1,100 kilometres over the course of sixty consecutive days.
Traversing a wide range of landscapes — from the green hills of the north to the vast desert expanses of the Negev — the journey followed footpaths that pass through remote wilderness, small communities, and historical sites. The photographs were made along the way, responding to the changing terrain, light, and atmosphere encountered during the walk.
Rather than functioning as a conventional travel document, the series reflects the experience of moving slowly through landscape over an extended period of time. The images trace the rhythm of the journey itself, capturing moments of stillness, scale, and solitude that emerge when distance is travelled on foot.
